Biography:
Mathew is a health researcher and evaluation specialist with over 15 years’ experience in research design and implementation in health & education sector in Uganda. His research interest is in child health especially violence against children, health inequality and utilization of health services among children and young adults. He has vast experience in evaluation of public health programs in Uganda and internationally; he has led studies in violence against children, including evaluating interventions to end violence in schools in South Western Uganda, successfully completed Together for Girls/CDC fellowship on analysis and use of Violence Against Children Data-nationally representative survey implemented by AfriChild with technical support from Makerere University School of Public health and Centres for Disease Prevention and Control-through this fellowship I was able to design and implement two studies using survey data. I have also held various research roles and worked with dynamic multi-disciplinary teams in research and evaluations. My current expertise is in research designs for experimental studies (randomized control trials and quasi-experimental studies); panel surveys (open and closed panels), cross-sectional studies (descriptive and analytical designs), and impact evaluations; Data analysis (quantitative analysis of panel and cross sectional survey data using Stata; qualitative data analysis especially framework, thematic analysis using Atlas ti and N-vivo); questionnaire development (development, pretesting, scale testing through quantitative methods and cognitive testing). I am a certified facilitator and mentor and currently the Technical Advisor at AfriChild Centre, Makerere University.
